Mark Smith

All of my work is based on the sea and it’s environment. I combine ceramics with found or salvaged materials. The nature of the material in some cases can dictate the look of the finished article. Each piece has a story to tell and weathering and decay are key to the story. A combination of slips, stains, oxides and reactive glazes are formed to give the impression of peeling paint, wear and decay. I enjoy the theme and this is present in the work. They never fail to bring a smile.
