John Masterton
I work in porcelain, thrown on the wheel, and finish using glazes based on traditional Chinese recipes – copper red, celadon and tenmoku – fired in reduction to around 1300C. I like to make things that can be used, or at least look as though they can be used. I am inspired by many things, but my first love is Imperial Chinese ceramics, exemplified by the pieces in the Percival David collection, now housed in the British Museum.
