Jack McGonigle
As a potter I produce handmade functional vessels. I work to express the qualities of the stoneware and porcelain clay that I use. Formal forms and patterns are inspired by traditional Korean and Japanese aesthetics. The designs on these vessels are inspired by coastlines which further develop during a process of reduction firing, adding unexpected surface qualities. I perceive ‘making’ and ‘firing’ to be one complete design process that acts as a catalyst and encourages serendipity in my work.
