Jack McGonigle
As a potter I produce handmade functional vessels. I work to express the qualities of the stoneware and porcelain clay that I use. Formal forms and patterns are inspired by traditional Korean and Japanese aesthetics. The use of these pots in everyday life is hugely important to me. I perceive ‘making’ and ‘firing’ to be one complete design process that acts as a catalyst and encourages serendipity in my work. My pots gain their characteristics through a process of reduction firing.
