Lesley Nason
My work is inspired by the sketches and photographs I make of the British countryside, coast, flora and fauna. The rolling hills, forests and farmland of Derbyshire, surrounding my home feature strongly in my work.
To produce my wall panels and vessels I firstly draw the image with linear and textural detail into the soft porcelain. Each image is drawn free hand into the clay so each piece is unique. The vessels are then hand built from the decorated panels. Once dry the pieces are bisque fired, then colour and contrast is achieved through the careful application of oxides, stains, glazes and resist. Once fired to 1250 degrees, ink is applied to bring out the beauty and delicacy of the crackle glaze.
