Tamar Rose

My range of decorative pots is born of my fascination with dramatic forms in the built and natural environment, and builds on my personal evolution as a maker. This has brought me from the Harrow tradition of thrown functional ceramics to my current collection of hand built decorative pieces. Since studying for my ceramics degree at Harrow, I have been involved in setting up a community studio, been a member of the Sussex guild, exhibited at open houses in Brighton Shoreham, Seaford and Worthing. I have sold work in Europe and the United States and am currently working as an artist in residence in a number of schools and teach ceramics to adults.

I have always felt compelled to create in three dimensions – this has included forets into other mediums such as metal, fabric and willow. Ultimately though, the plasticity and malleability of clay has offered me the most flexible material in which to realise my visions. Clay is my sketch book-each piece or collection of pieces is unique and part of my journey as a maker. I work in porcelain paper clay, using a combination of hand building techniques- rolling, impressing, sprigging and moulding. They are fired twice with a final lustre firing completing the alchemy.
