Surface pattern and texture play a key role within the narrative of my work. I use rusted, degraded and occasionally toxic objects collected from beach cleaning to mark and texture the flesh of clay slabs. After building up layers of distress, each slab is erected into a vessel through a freeform process of construction that enables the union of contrasting clay bodies. I take great care to express the intrinsic qualities present within vernacular clays through my work.
