Hamish Symonds
I make slipware inspired by tradition but contrasted with modern, gestural line work. I throw bold forms and use minimal turning to preserve the freshness of the form, emphasising details like throwing lines and swift fishtail handle joints. The decorative graffito technique I use is responsive to every subtle touch and allows the rich red clay body to shine through in a medley of hues. I finish the pots with an amber glaze to create the warm, autumnal presence ubiquitous with British slipware.
